Former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger Officially Backs Biden

Former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) endorsed President Biden’s reelection bid Wednesday, one day before the first presidential debate versus former President Trump.

Kinzinger, in a video posted Wednesday, described himself as a “proud conservative” while somehow also then claiming Trump as a threat to American principles.

“I’ve always put democracy and our Constitution above of all us. It’s because of my unwavering support for democracy that today, as a proud conservative, I’m endorsing Joe Biden for reelection,” Kinzinger said in the video.

“This is what putting your country before your party looks like. I’m grateful for your endorsement, Adam.” Biden said in a response to the video posted on the X social media platform.

Kinzinger has been a vocal, and at time somewhat unhinged, Trump critic, and since retiring from Congress in 2022, he has emerged as a national analyst on CNN.

The former congressman told CNN on Wednesday morning that his decision to support Biden over Trump was not difficult.

The endorsement helps the Biden campaign’s efforts to appeal to moderate Republicans after former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley withdrew from the GOP primary in March.

To target disaffected Republicans, the campaign has launched advertisements that highlight Trump’s comments toward Haley and her allies ahead of the upcoming presidential election.
