The Senate is poised to vote on a bill sponsored by Senator Ted Cruz (R.-Tx.) that will sanction Nord Stream 2 AG which is building a pipeline from Russia to Germany.
The measure will require 60-votes to pass and then would need to pass the House and be signed by the House. [Read more on this rule here.]
The Biden administration opposes the move saying it would anger Russia and ruin ties with Germany.
The move would harm the current supplier, Ukraine, and the move is seen as protectionary to Ukraine. The Biden admin argues against that.
The vote comes after NATO and the United States failed to make progress with Russia which has amassed thousands of troops on the Ukraine border.
Cruz slammed the administration for the catastrophic decision.
