Former President Trump has reportedly blasted the New York Post, one of the country’s leading right of center tabloid newspapers, for publishing a comprehensive profile of potential 2024 White House contender Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) over the weekend.
The story, which includes photographs of the governor fishing and playing baseball as a youngster and a title repeating a popular DeSantis talking point, prompted an angry social media tirade from the former president.
“In writer Salena Zito’s Fake News “puff piece” about DeSantis, which supposedly appeared in the dying New York Post, which is way down in readership just like FoxNews is way down in Ratings, why doesn’t she mention that he wants to cut Social Security & Medicare, loves losers like Jeb Bush, Paul Ryan, and Karl Rove, and it getting CLOBBERED in the polls by me. DeSantis is a RINO who is trying to hide his past. I don’t read the New York Post anymore. It has become Fake News, just like Fox & WSJ!” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump has been increasingly critical of the Florida Governor in recent weeks, repeatedly attacking him on social media.
The Post is one of a few right-wing media groups that has grown increasingly critical of Trump while promoting DeSantis, who is generally anticipated to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
The day after his reelection triumph in the midterm elections last year, the Post printed a front-page headline pronouncing the Florida governor “DEFUTURE.”
