The long-awaited Durham Report’s publication on Monday reaffirmed a widely held conservative conviction that the politicized and unfounded beginnings of the Russia inquiry that dogged most of the Trump presidency.
Even CNN host Jake Tapper reportedly was shocked by the findings of the report, which was released after a four-year investigation by Special Counsel John Durham.
“For years, Donald Trump and his supporters pinned their hopes on the investigation by the former U.S. attorney for Connecticut, John Durham later named special counsel by AG Bill Barr, Trump and his allies arguing it would exonerate him from any hint of improper behavior regarding the Russian government’s attempts to interfere in the 2016 election…The report is now here, it has dropped, and it might not have produced everything of what some Republicans hoped for, [but] it is regardless devastating to the FBI and to a degree, it does exonerate Donald Trump.” Tapper said during a recent broadcast.
The remarks made by Tapper are noteworthy since the veteran anchor, who was one of the first employees hired during the Jeff Zucker period, served in a similar capacity for CNN’s Russiagate coverage as Rachel Maddow did for MSNBC.
Additionally, Tapper was the journalist that assisted in bringing the notorious Steele dossier to the attention of the globe.
