After a U-Haul truck drove into barricades around the White House late Monday, a man has now reportedly been charged with various offenses, including making threats against the president.
Sai Varshith Kandula, 19, of Chesterfield, Missouri, was the truck’s driver when it crashed through a security gate at Lafayette Park, which is close to the White House gates.
According to authorities, he was charged with five felonies, including making threats to hurt, abduct, or murder the president, vice president, or a member of their family.
Around 10 o’clock in the evening, there was a collision on the 16th Street side of Lafayette Square.
The Secret Service requested that the adjoining Hay Adams Hotel be evacuated, according to The Washington Post. Additionally, temporary closures were made to the park’s roads and pedestrian paths.
According to the preliminary inquiry, Kandula purposefully slammed into the bollards outside Lafayette Park, according to the authorities. Authorities removed a Nazi flag from the location of the event.
