Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi has now been told to leave her office in the Capitol by tomorrow, according to Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), the acting Speaker of the House.
After House Democrats joined forces with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and seven other Republicans to remove McCarthy as speaker, those Republicans included Reps. Andy Biggs (AZ), Ken Buck (CO), Eli Crane (AZ), Bob Good (VA), Matt Rosendale (MT), Tim Burchett (TN), and Nancy Mace (SC).
The House ejected a speaker for the first time in American history.
Pelosi was upset at being kicked out of her office, a move which she complained was a break from tradition.
McCarthy said on Friday that Pelosi had previously encouraged him to make concessions to the few Republicans who were opposing him in January while he was seeking to get the votes he needed to become speaker, including allowing one member to file a motion to resign.
McCarthy apparently had an assurance from Pelosi that she would support him if a motion to vacate ever came up. Something that, when Democrats and rogue Republicans banded together to oust Trump from office, ultimately didn’t happen.
