Wednesday night at a town hall, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley defended her puzzling remarks regarding the cause of the Civil War, claiming in an interview the following morning that the query originated from a “plant” of the Democrats who was out to get her.
The Republican candidate for president spoke with New Hampshire radio presenter Jack Heath amidst criticism for her response to the question of why the American Civil War occurred.
Haley’s rambling response ultimately ascribed responsibility for the Civil War to concerns regarding liberty and the government’s role; the interrogator reprimanded her for neglecting to mention slavery as a fundamental catalyst for the conflict.
Haley continued by asserting that the individual who posed the inquiry was a “plant” for the Democrats who intended to confuse her with a challenging question.
