On Wednesday, fourteen House Democrats cast a vote condemning the “open-borders policies” of the Biden administration, in the midst of an influx of migrants flooding blue communities and an increase in border crossings.
By voting in agreement with every voting Republican, the group of party defectors approved a resolution introduced by Representative Nathaniel Moran (R-TX). Non-voters included twelve Democrats and nine Republicans.
The resolution urged President Joe Biden to terminate his administration’s open-borders policies and condemned the national security and public safety crisis along the southwest border, in addition to denouncing his policies.
Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX), a former linebacker for the Tennessee Titans and an official during the Obama administration, was among the fourteen who defied the odds and will face Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in the 2024 election. Legislators Wiley Nickel (D-NC), Mary Peltola (D-AK), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA), Donald Davis (D-NC), Jared Golden (D-TX), Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX), Greg Landsman (D-OH), Susie Lee (D-NV), Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Donald Davis (D-NC), and Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) were the remaining representatives.
As impeachment proceedings against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas commenced this month, the bipartisan vote occurred concurrently with a meeting between congressional leaders and Vice President Biden at the White House to deliberate on a national security funding request for U.S. allies including Israel and Ukraine, as well as border security, while the Senate, led by Democrats, attempted to negotiate a resolution.
