Riley Gaines, a former collegiate swimmer who is now an advocate for women’s rights, has been invited by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech on Thursday.
After being disregarded in favor of a biological male at the 2022 NCAA Division 1 women’s swimming competition, Gaines rose to prominence as a strong advocate for girls’ and women’s sports and spaces.
Gaines tied with male transgender swimmer Lia Thomas for fifth place in the women’s 200 freestyle competition.
But after the event, Gaines was informed by the NCAA that her plaque would arrive in the mail, while Thomas was the only one to get the fifth place trophy for the photo op.
“Riley Gaines is a role model for America’s women and girls, inspiring them to unlock their potential and do the right thing, even when it isn’t popular. Right now, the White House is attacking athletes like Riley, undermining the integrity of women’s athletics, and pushing for men to take scholarships and roster spots from women.” Johnson said in a new statement to The Daily Wire.
In order to incorporate so-called “gender identity,” the Biden administration has proposed revising Title IX.
The new move would imply that the majority of laws prohibiting transgender biological males from competing against or alongside females would be invalid.
In addition, funding for schools that disobey the bizarre new regulations might be withheld.
