In a Facebook post on Friday, Republican Missouri State Rep. Ben Baker disclosed that his daughter and son-in-law were killed by violent gangs while they were serving as missionaries in Haiti.
The couple had been employed by Missions In Haiti Inc., a ministry that was owned and operated by David’s parents. The organization noted in a May 2023 newsletter post that the area in which they operated was managed by one of the “nicer gangs.”
“Most of you know my daughter and son-in-law Davy and Natalie Lloyd are full time missionaries in Haiti. They were attacked by gangs this evening and were both killed,” Baker wrote in a post on social media.
“My heart is broken in a thousand pieces. I’ve never felt this kind of pain,” he continued.
In July, the U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory for Haiti.
For months, the nation has been embroiled in civil unrest. After months of gang violence compelled Prime Minister Ariel Henry to resign, the United States dispatched anti-terrorism troops to the impoverished nation in March.
