According to numerous reports on Friday, lawyers representing former President Trump have issued a cease-and-desist letter to the filmmakers of the new biopic “The Apprentice” following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week.
Variety, which was the first to report on the letter, has alleged that Trump’s team is attempting to obstruct the release of “The Apprentice” and has advised its producers not to pursue a distributor for the film.
“The Movie presents itself as a factual biography of Mr. Trump, yet nothing could be further from the truth,” the letter reads.
“It is a concoction of lies that repeatedly defames President Trump and constitutes direct foreign interference in America’s elections. If you do not immediately cease and desist all distribution and marketing of this libelous farce, we will be forced to pursue all appropriate legal remedies.” it continues.
The film’s producers described it as a fair and impartial portrayal of the former president in a statement to Variety.
After its premiere at Cannes, the film was met with an eight-minute standing ovation.
