Federal authorities searched the residence of Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, a Democrat, on Thursday morning, according to reports and video footage.
More than a dozen agents entered the house and took several things from the search, including paper boxes, clipboards, and large plastic tubs.
According to reports, other warrants were also served at the homes of David Duong, president and CEO of recycling company Cal Waste Solutions, his son Andy Duong, and their respective company offices.
“The FBI is conducting court authorized law enforcement activity on Maiden Lane. We are unable to provide additional information at this time.” The FBI said in a statement.
According to investigative writer Dan Noyes, law enforcement sources informed him that the raid was part of a public corruption investigation into Thao and her boyfriend.
According to Noyes, the probe also includes the Internal Revenue Service and the United States Postal Service.
The announcement comes as other Democrats, including Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), and Hunter Biden, have been the targets of federal criminal investigations in recent months.
Federal agents have reportedly taken gadgets from New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) and raided locations connected to George Soros-backed District Attorney Jody Owens.
