Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who withstood his own appalling debate performance in front of the 2022 election, urged other Democrats to “chill the f‑‑‑ out” in response to media reports that Democrats are freaking out over former President Biden’s lackluster performance at Thursday’s debate.
Fetterman reminded his supporters that when superstar Mehmet Oz struggled to form cohesive sentences during their one and only debate following a stroke, experts and “polling geniuses” predicted he would lose his Senate bid in 2022.
“I refuse to join the Democratic vultures on Biden’s shoulder after the debate. No one knows more than me that a rough debate is not the sum total of the person and their record,” Fetterman wrote in a social media post.
After the debate, Oz was leading Fetterman in the polling average that FiveThirtyEight, a political handicapping website, had generated.
But in the Pennsylvania Senate contest, Fetterman prevailed with 51.2 percent of the vote to Oz’s 46.3 percent.
Democrats questioned if the party should or should replace the president at the head of the ticket after Biden’s debate with Donald Trump on Thursday night.
Biden stumbled over his words and had a hoarse voice, which his campaign attributed to a cold.
