Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated on Tuesday that President Joe Biden should consent to interviews with “serious journalists” due to health concerns stemming from a disastrous debate performance that has shattered his re-election campaign.
Leading Democratic Party figure Pelosi talked with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell as the Biden campaign attempted to reassure backers and contributors that the president is still a competitive opponent of former President Donald Trump.
“I think my recommendation is for him to have some interviews with serious journalists, you among them. Serious journalists, no-holds-barred, any question is fair, and just sit there and be Joe,” Pelosi said.
ABC News revealed a few hours after Pelosi’s remarks that Biden would appear on Friday for his “first” post-debate television interview. George Stephanopoulos, ABC anchor and longtime Clinton aide, is anticipated to steer the discussion.
A rising number of Democrats, including funders and at least one member of Congress, are putting pressure on Biden to step down in order to allow the party to unite around a different candidate as many Democrats are fearing the outcome of the next election.
