Democrat Senator Jon Tester Calls on Biden to Drop Out

Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) became the second Democratic senator to officially urge President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential run.

“Montanans have put their trust in me to do what is right, and it is a responsibility I take seriously. I have worked with President Biden when it has made Montana stronger, and I’ve never been afraid to stand up to him when he is wrong. And while I appreciate his commitment to public service and our country, I believe President Biden should not seek re-election to another term.” Tester said in a new statement.

Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT) is the only other senator who has called for Biden to step out. Earlier on Thursday, top House Democrat Adam Schiff (D-CA), who is running for Senate in California, urged Biden to stop his reelection campaign.

He joins almost a dozen other members of Congress in urging the current president to relinquish the candidacy to another candidate.

The pressure comes as surveys conducted in the aftermath of a disastrous debate show Biden trailing Trump both nationally and in crucial swing states required to win the 2024 election.
