Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer Rules Herself Out of Vice-Presidential Contest

On Morning Joe Monday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, whose name has been a constant in discussions regarding being a potential running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris, apparently withdrew from the veepstakes during a recent discussion on Morning Joe.

“I have communicated with everyone, including the campaign, that I’ve made a commitment to serve out my term as governor in Michigan. I can be an excellent ally to a President Harris and I can be a great co-chair of the Harris campaign from my place as governor. So I am not a part of the vetting.” Whitmer said in response to a question about whether or not she had been contacted by Harris’s team to potentially serve as her running mate.

The most prominent woman mentioned as a potential running companion for Harris is Whitmer.

Additional candidates include Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

Last Monday, Whitmer endorsed Harris for president, a day after President Joe Biden suspended his own reelection campaign and endorsed Harris.
