According to new data from Nielsen Research Center, Fox News recorded another massive ratings victory for the month of July, which was its most-viewed month ever, with Jesse Watters securing the top spot.
The increase in viewers happened in the midst of a month that was chock full of explosive news, ranging from President Joe Biden’s speech at the Republican National Convention to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
For all of these events, Fox was by far the most watched cable news program. Fox News received 99 points out of 100 for its cable news presentation, while MSNBC received one.
In terms of overall viewership, Fox outperformed CNN in both daytime and evening.
Fox News had an average of 1.9 million viewers during the day, with almost 260,000 of them belonging to the highly sought-after 25-54 demographic. In contrast, CNN averaged 111,000 viewers in the key demo and 523,000 overall.
CNN pulled in 856,000 viewers in primetime (a little over 200,000 in key demo), while Fox averaged almost 3.5 million viewers (about 500,000 in 25-54 demo).
MSNBC’s evening broadcasts attracted approximately 1.2 million viewers (82,000 in key demo), while daytime programming averaged 721,000 viewers.
When comparing the current patterns to the election years of 2020 and 2016, Fox has seen a rise in viewers while MSNBC and CNN have seen double digit declines.
In comparison to 2020, Fox increased its overall viewership by 17% in the daytime and 15% in the evening, while CNN lost almost 40% of its daytime and primetime audience, and MSNBC lost almost 40% of its viewers overall.
