Vice President Harris has now officially flip flopped on the subject of fracking by reversing her previous view of the key issue. Harris is desperately trying to win over swing votes in places like Pennsylvania, a state that relies on fracking for a significant portion of its economy.
When Harris emerged as the party’s presumed nominee following President Biden’s withdrawal from the contest, she was greeted with a surge of left-wing enthusiasm, in part due to her progressive stance on issues like fracking.
Progressives may be less excited about her newly changed position on fracking, but the left wing of the party is still likely to support her in the end over former President Trump.
Fracking is a popular technique for obtaining gas and oil from shale rocks deep underground. It entails injecting a mixture of chemicals, sand, and water into the rocks. Utilizing this technique is a major factor in the “shale revolution,” which solidified the United States’ position as a major producer of gas and oil.
The second-largest gas-producing state is Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state in the forthcoming election, where 4.6 percent of jobs were in the energy sector in 2022.
In that year, the state employed close to 18,000 workers in the fuel extraction industry.
However, because of its effects on the environment, fracking has drawn criticism from many on the radical left, including radical environmentalists.
It remains unclear whether Harris’s latest flip-flop will help her in November with voters.
