Amidst several ongoing changes at the cable news network, CNN is now permanently closing its opinion department.
A person with intimate knowledge of the change claimed that certain writers received official notice of the change by email on Wednesday afternoon.
“Just a quick note to let you know that unfortunately CNN has decided to shut down the opinion section. I hope our paths cross elsewhere!” the email read.
Far-left and liberal viewpoints were regularly given a forum in the opinion section, which has recently included a range of articles concerning the 2024 presidential election in addition to popular subjects like the Olympics and Generation Z social media influencer trends.
In an effort to restore the network’s battered reputation in the television and digital spheres following a turbulent year marked by widespread layoffs and low viewership, CNN CEO Mark Thompson had previously hinted at measures to reduce spending within the organization.
