In response to a new report that was published on Saturday, Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, acknowledged that he had cheated on his first wife with the couple’s babysitter.
The report had claimed that the marriage had ended after he impregnated the babysitter.
“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.” Emhoff said in a statement.
According to The Daily Mail, Emhoff had an affair with Najen Naylor, a teacher at the private school where the couple’s kids were enrolled, while he was still married to Kerstin Emhoff.
The Mail was informed by a source who was aware of the affair and the pregnancy that Naylor did not keep the child. It’s unclear if she placed the child for adoption or had an abortion.
The 2010 divorce between the Emhoffs was finalized.
In 2013, Doug Emhoff went on a blind date with Harris, who was the attorney general of California at the time. The following year, they got married.
President Joe Biden’s team, which investigated possible vice presidential candidates for Biden’s 2020 campaign, was aware of Emhoff’s affair. Harris was aware of the affair before to the couple’s marriage.
