Republican Mayor Betrays GOP, Publicly Backs Harris

The Republican Mayor of Mesa, AZ John Giles has now officially come out against former President Trump and backed his opponent Vice-President Kamala Harris.

Invoking the name of Arizona political colossus John McCain, Giles endorsed presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris on Monday.

In an opinion column published in The Arizona Republic, Mesa mayor John Giles expressed his support for the vice president.

Giles also went on to blast Trump during the endorsement.

“I think the time has come for us as AZ Republicans to admit the obvious…which is that our party’s nominee is not qualified for office and that we need to vote for the adult in the room, and that is Kamala Harris.” Giles announced at a recent press conference.

Giles cited the federal infrastructure funds that were allocated to Mesa under President Joe Biden and Harris as a justification for supporting the vice president.

The cross-partisan endorsement could become important in the state, which has been transformed from a red state to a toss-up in recent years.

In 2020, Biden and Harris secured the state by a margin of less than 10,500 votes and secured Maricopa County, which includes Mesa, by a margin of just over 45,000 ballots.
