REPORT: Hunter Sought US Government Handout for Ukrainian Gas Company While Father was VP

Hunter Biden reportedly requested aid from the US government in 2016 to help Burisma, the Ukrainian gas company where he was on the board, expand its business into Italy when his father was vice president in the Obama administration.

Hunter Biden, now a convicted felon, has long faced allegations that he used his father’s position in the White House to help him score lucrative business transactions overseas.

According to the New York Times, the Biden-Harris State Department published papers about Hunter Biden’s request late last month after withholding the material for years. In spite of the request, the State Department refused to divulge the letter’s full text.

The newspaper filed a Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA, in June 2021. The newspaper filed a lawsuit eight months later after the State Department refused to produce the records.

After another year and a half, the department attempted to close the matter by releasing a significant number of documents – none of which had anything to do with Hunter Biden’s interactions with the US government.

According to the archives, Hunter Biden addressed at least one letter to John R. Phillips, the US ambassador to Italy, urging him to organize a meeting between Burisma and the president of Tuscany, a region within Italy.

Hunter Biden is scheduled to stand trial next month in another criminal case involving dodging taxes on millions of dollars earned from Burisma and other overseas corporations.

Federal prosecutors have hinted that they may seek new charges against the president’s son under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, or FARA, since he was lobbying the U.S. government without registration.
