On Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris announced a plan to provide $25,000 to first-time homeowners as a down payment on a property. The announcement was met with intense criticism from conservatives.
Harris disclosed the strategy during her Friday afternoon rally in North Carolina.
The vice president pledged that a Harris-Walz administration would provide working families with up to $25,000 in down payment assistance if they have been first-time purchasers and have paid their rent on time for the past two years.
ABC News correspondent Selina Wang wrote on X that first-generation homeowners would receive more assistance than other first-time homeowners, following her acquisition of information regarding the proposal from a Harris campaign official.
JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential candidate, denounced Harris’ housing proposal, asserting that it would be employed to provide illegal immigrants with “American homes.”
Under the Biden-Harris administration, the median home price in the United States has experienced a significant increase, reaching a high of $479,500 in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Despite the fact that the median home price decreased in 2023, it continues to be higher than it was during the final months of the Trump administration.
