Michigan Rules RFK Jr’s Name Must Remain on November Ballot in Spite of Him Dropping Out of Race

Michigan Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has reportedly stated that Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s name must remain on the general election ballot in Michigan, despite his efforts to have it removed from ballots in battleground states.

Kennedy declared that he would continue to appear on the ballot in “red” and “blue” states, but he would withdraw from 10 battleground states where he could potentially serve as a spoiler after endorsing Trump last week.

On Tuesday, it was reported that the office of Michigan Secretary of State Benson issued a statement stating that “Minor party candidates cannot withdraw, so his name will remain on the ballot in the November election.”

Kennedy was certified for the Michigan general election ballot in April by the Natural Law Party, which had already submitted the requisite documents to ensure that its candidate was included on the ballot.

Michigan has been a critical factor in the last two presidential elections, transitioning from Donald Trump in 2016 to Joe Biden in 2020.

The Democrat-turned-independent candidate criticized the Democratic Party in his speech last week when he announced that he was suspending his campaign and instead throwing his support behind Trump.
