GOP County Chair in Arizona Endorses Democrat to Replace Him

The Republican chair of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in Arizona has now expressed his support for a Democrat as his successor.

“I am endorsing Joel [Navarro] because he is a man of integrity, because he is a dedicated public servant who fights for what’s right, and because he has a record of serving the interest of all people regardless of the party,” board Chair Jack Sellers remarked in a statement.

Sellers supported Democrat Joel Navarro, who was unopposed in a primary, according to election results from Maricopa County, rather than Mark Stewart, another Republican who emerged ahead of him in July.

In 2021, the Republican-led Board of Supervisors in Maricopa County issued a letter in which they condemned the state Senate Republican-led audit of the county’s 2020 election results.

The letter to Republican senators declared that the board would cease all collaboration with the Republican state senators’ endeavors and accused them of enabling the Grand Canyon State to become a “laughingstock” by adhering to allegations of election fraud promoted by former President Trump.
