Maria Shriver, a former journalist and California first lady, disclosed that at a Michigan town hall event on Monday, only “pre-determined questions” were permitted to be asked of Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Are we going to be able to ask a question?” a woman asked Shriver.
“You’re not, unfortunately, we have some pre-determined questions,” Shriver said in response.
The video of Shriver’s response to the woman quickly went viral on social media, with several users criticizing the event as a Harris campaign “production” rather than a genuine town hall, where voters are typically permitted to ask presidential candidates unscripted questions.
After the Michigan forum, Harris conducted a comparable “town hall” affair with Cheney in Wisconsin, which was moderated by anti-Trump commentator Charlie Sykes. It is uncertain whether the audience queries at that event were also predetermined.
