New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) claimed that her constituents that vote for Republicans in the state races are “anti-American” and “anti-woman.”
Hochul made the inflammatory remarks to Al Sharpton during a Saturday interview on MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation.”
Sharpton asked the Democrat about the controversial joke that Tony Hinchcliffe made about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of garbage” at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally last week which Hochul said was “so painful.”
“You do not think in this great country that you we should have leaders who either say this themselves or will tolerate it at one of their rallies,” she commented about Trump. “I think this rally backfired on him.”
She said that the fallout from Hinchcliffe’s set aided her argument that New Yorkers should not cast their ballots for the Republican Party.
“It gave me a chance to tie the Republicans running in these seats, the incumbents, closer to Donald Trump,” she said, and to “remind everybody, if you’re voting for these Republicans in New York, you are voting for someone who supports Donald Trump and you’re anti-woman, you’re anti-abortion, and basically you’re anti American.”
“Because you have just trashed American values and what our country is all about over and over and over,” Hochul added. “And you will wear this on Election Day.”
New York Republican Rep. Mike Lawler, who is running against former Rep. Mondaire Jones (D) to retain his seat representing the 17th congressional district blasted Hochul for attacking her constituents.
.@KathyHochul is an embarrassment to our state — completely incoherent and incapable of leading. Attacking New Yorkers who support President Trump as un-American? She previously told New Yorkers who didn’t agree with her to move to Florida. I’m shocked her favorables are so low. https://t.co/djHRC1YBZQ

“[KathyHochul] is an embarrassment to our state — completely incoherent and incapable of leading,” he tweeted on Saturday. “Attacking New Yorkers who support President Trump as un-American? She previously told New Yorkers who didn’t agree with her to move to Florida. I’m shocked her favorables are so low.”
Lawler wasn’t the only peeved politician. Rep. Elise Stefanik posted that Hochul is the “worst governor in America,” in response to the segment.
State Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox told the New York Post that the Democrat lawmaker was “smearing at least one half of American voters and all Trump voters.”
