Sen. John Fetterman (D) of Pennsylvania has reportedly advised his fellow Democrats to remain calm in their discussions regarding President-elect Trump and his appointments, as “he has not yet been inaugurated.”
“And that’s the thing. If you’re already exhausted, freaking out, and it’s not even Thanksgiving, then you really ought to pace yourselves. Because he hasn’t even been inaugurated yet,” Fetterman said.
“So you really have to chill out, and you’re going to have to be more discerning or discriminate on what’s going to freak you out, or what’s just trolling. Because it’s not the weather, it’s the climate now for the next four years.” he added.
Fetterman’s remarks coincide with the announcement of a plethora of Cabinet and other administration appointments by Trump this week, some of which have caused consternation in Washington.
He appointed former Florida Representative Matt Gaetz (R) as his attorney general, former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard (Hawaii) as his director of national intelligence, and Fox News’ Pete Hegseth as his defense secretary.
Fetterman has acknowledged that his party has made errors in its targeting of specific voter groups following the 2024 presidential election, in which Trump defeated the Democratic nominee, Vice President Harris, in all seven battleground states.
Fetterman, a senator, stated earlier this week that he would vote to confirm a different nominee of the president-elect, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), despite having characterized Trump’s decision to select Gaetz as the “ultimate troll.”
