In what sources have described as a “massive blowout” over critical Cabinet appointments, Elon Musk publicly clashed with Boris Epshteyn, one of Trump’s closest allies, resulting in high tensions within President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team.
According to three sources cited by Axios, the dispute reached a climax last week at a dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club.
Musk accused Epshteyn of disclosing confidential information regarding the transition process, including potential personnel selections, a charge with Epshteyn denied vigorously.
The altercation underscores a power struggle, as Musk, a recent addition to Trump’s inner circle, increasingly promotes his preferred candidates.
Musk has reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction with Epshteyn’s role in the selection of Justice Department nominees, such as Matt Gaetz for attorney general.
Musk is advocating for Howard Lutnick, the co-chair of Trump’s transition team, to be appointed as the Treasury secretary, rather than Wall Street veteran Scott Besent.
Musk continues to enjoy substantial backing from Trump’s family and allies, despite the disagreements.
According to reports, Musk’s input is highly regarded by Vice President-elect JD Vance, commentator Tucker Carlson, and Trump’s sons.
