California Capitol Evacuated After Receiving Threat

After being evacuated on Friday morning due to an email threat, the California Capitol building in Sacramento and other legislative workspaces have reopened.

The threat was reportedly sent via email.

The Rules Committee received a memo from Lia Lopez, who serves as the top administrative officer for the Assembly.

According to a new report, law enforcement has finished conducting a comprehensive inspection and sweep of the Capitol building, as well as the “swing space” offices and Legislative Office Building that are located adjacent.

Unfortunately, the memo did not include any details regarding the nature of the threat.

Lopez issued a memo this morning to all members of the Assembly as well as the staff of the Assembly, encouraging them to leave the Capitol and legislative spaces while law enforcement is actively trying to assess whether or not the threat is credible.

It was just before nine o’clock in the morning when Sheila Braverman, the deputy secretary for Senate Human Resources, issued a message that was very identical to the one that her colleagues in the Senate received.

Until January 6, the Legislature will be on recess, which means that the majority of lawmakers will most likely be away from Sacramento, in their respective home districts.

In order to attend a meeting of the Democratic Governors Association, Governor Gavin Newsom is currently in Los Angeles.

Officers on bicycles were dispatched by the California Highway Patrol, which is in charge of securing the Capitol.

Their mission was to circumnavigate the area and prevent employees and visitors from entering.

For the purpose of assisting with the sweeps, the police brought dogs into the buildings.

A representative for the California Highway Patrol named John Ortega stated that the department was the only one involved in the investigation.

Ortega declined to go into detail about the threat, and he refused to disclose the time at which it was received.

Outside of the Capitol, Tenth Street had already been closed down in preparation for the California International Marathon, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday.
