On Friday morning, President-elect Donald Trump released a message on social media in which he expressed his support for Pete Hegseth, his nominee for Secretary of Defense who is currently facing opposition in Congress.
In the past, Hegseth has served as a co-host on Fox & Friends Weekend and has also hosted the Patriot Awards on Fox Nation.
However, after being nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to head the Defense Department, Hegseth’s working relationship with Fox News was immediately terminated as he pursed his new role with the administration.
Additionally, several damaging stories regarding an investigation into alleged sexual assault, extramarital affairs, and drinking at work have come to light, which have raised serious questions about whether or not he has the votes to be confirmed.
Hegseth was granted permission by Trump to alter the narrative around his candidacy by conducting a press tour of conservative media outlets, which Team Trump has since claimed was successful.
Trump had not been publicly participating in the controversy surrounding Hegsethuntil Friday morning, when he expressed his support for the candidate in a post on his Truth Social platform.
“Pete Hegseth is doing very well. His support is strong and deep, much more so than the Fake News would have you believe. He was a great student – Princeton/Harvard educated – with a Military state of mind. He will be a fantastic, high energy, Secretary of Defense Defense, one who leads with charisma and skill. Pete is a WINNER, and there is nothing that can be done to change that!!!” Trump wrote.
