REPORT: Trump Lobbied DeSantis in order to Get Lara Trump Appointed to the Senate

President-elect Donald Trump is now reportedly using his influence to encourage Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to consider appointing his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to fill Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) seat.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that President-elect Donald Trump recently engaged in a conversation with Gov. Ron DeSantis regarding Lara Trump, in which he made a positive impression on his erstwhile 2024 GOP presidential primary opponent. DeSantis is responsible for assuming the seat that Sen. Marco Rubio is vacating.

Rubio has been appointed by President Trump as his secretary of state and is anticipated to be confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate next year.

DeSantis’ selection of Lara Trump would serve to accelerate her political ascent.

The 42-year-old announced on Sunday night that she would be resigning from her position as co-chair of the Republican National Committee.

She had assumed the position earlier this year and helped secure Trump’s return to the White House.

DeSantis is permitted to appoint an individual to replace the vacancy until a special election is held in 2026.

Florida boasts an extensive network of ambitious Republicans, including individuals who are associated with the governor.

DeSantis’s supporters assert that he is contemplating a variety of candidates; however, they concur that selecting Lara Trump would significantly improve his relationship with the incoming president.

DeSantis has indicated that he intends to render a determination by the beginning of January.

It is not a certainty that DeSantis will select Lara Trump, and individuals who are acquainted with the governor have observed that he has a tendency to be independent.

Ashley Moody, the Attorney General of Florida, is among the candidates that he is currently contemplating.

The governor’s decision to challenge Trump for the presidential nomination resulted in Trump’s vicious assaults regarding disloyalty, as his endorsement was essential for DeSantis during his 2018 governorship campaign.

During the campaign, DeSantis responded by referencing Trump’s age and legal complications.

However, Trump and DeSantis achieved a détente this spring during a meeting that was arranged by their mutual acquaintance, Steve Witkoff, a real estate mogul whom Trump has appointed as his Middle East envoy.

Trump is contemplating the appointment of DeSantis as his defense secretary if the current nominee, Pete Hegseth, is unable to surmount opposition from a small number of critical senators, as their relationship has significantly improved.
