It was reported by his office that Governor Jim Pillen (R-Nebraska) was taken to the hospital on Sunday after being thrown from a horse.
The governor’s office stated that Pillen was “alert and is in continuous contact with his team.”
When Pillen was bucked off of a “new” horse, his office stated in a news release that was issued on Sunday that he and members of his family were riding horses at the time.
“While riding on horseback with family members today, Governor Jim Pillen was bucked off a new a new horse and was injured.” the statement read. “The Governor was transported to Columbus Community Hospital, and out of an abundance of caution, was then transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha. The Governor is expected to remain at UNMC for several days. The Governor is alert and is in continuous touch with his team.” it continued.
Initially, Pillen was sent to Columbus Community Hospital; but, in an effort to exercise extreme caution, he was subsequently taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
After running in the gubernatorial election that year, the Republican governor was elected in 2022.
This was due to the fact that the previous governor, Pete Ricketts, who was also a Republican, had finished his term.
Ricketts was then appointed to the United States Senate by Pillen to cover the seat that had been left by former Republican Senator Ben Sasse, who had resigned in 2023 in order to take the position of president of the University of Florida. Since then, Sasse has resigned from his position as president of the institution.
Prior to his election as governor, Pillen was employed in the field of veterinary medicine and successfully ran a cattle company.
