President elect Trump has now nominated Callista Gingrich, the wife of Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House of Representatives from Georgia, to be the next ambassador of the United States to Switzerland.
During the first term of President Trump, she had previously held the position of ambassador to the Vatican.
Callista Gingrich was one of the few individuals whom President Trump chose to designate for the position of ambassador to foreign allies. Trump’s most recent nominations were made on Sunday afternoon.
In his announcement of the appointment, Trump made the announcement on Truth Social.
He praised Gingrich for her efforts to combat human trafficking and promote religious freedom while she served as the Vatican ambassador.
Both throughout the primary election and the general election for the presidency in 2024, her husband was an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump.
“I am pleased to announce Callista L. Gingrich will be our next United States Ambassador to Switzerland. Happily married to the Great Newt Gingrich, Callista previously served, with distinction, as my Ambassador to the Holy See.” Trump wrote on his Truth Social Network.
“During her tenure, Callista worked to advance and defend international religious freedom, combat human trafficking, and provide humanitarian assistance around the World. Callista graduated, with honors, from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 1988. Congratulations!” he continued.
