Tim Burchett Elicits Laughter as He Praises Mike Johnson for Not Cheating on His Wife in New Fox Appearance

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) reportedly elicited laughter from Fox News host Edward Lawrence when he praised House Speaker Mike Johnson as a “honest” politician.

Burchett appeared to be criticizing other, unnamed, politicians by commending Johnson for not having cheated on his wife.

In order to determine their future leadership, the House of Representatives will convene on the first day of the new session, which is Friday.

Johnson, who has been the Speaker of the House since October 2023, is currently under scrutiny from his Republican colleagues due to his collaboration with Democrats on a bipartisan funding measure earlier this month.

Johnson has very little space for dissent, as the House is currently dominated by a narrow Republican majority.

In order to maintain his position as Speaker, he is unable to tolerate more than two defections from his own party.

On Monday, just days prior to the vote, President-elect Donald Trump supported Johnson’s effort to retain the House Speaker’s gavel.

During his appearance on Your World on Monday night, the presenter inquired about Burchett’s opinions regarding Johnson and whether he intended to maintain his position.

“I think he ultimately will. I think that the die has been cast pretty much. But as I stated I will make up my mind on Friday and I will talk to Mike, maybe President Trump even and to discuss some ideas and issues that I have. But Mike’s been a good friend to me and there is nobody more honest that I have dealt with in Washington. He is a fine Christian man, not a religious man, he is a Christian man. He doesn’t cheat on his wife and I find that very appealing in Washington DC.” Burchett said.

Lawrence’s response was to laugh out loud.
