On Monday, President-elect Donald Trump reportedly disclosed that his son, Donald Trump Jr., would travel to Greenland in anticipation of the territory becoming “part of our nation.”
“I am hearing that the people of Greenland are “MAGA.” My son, Don Jr, and various representatives, will be traveling there to visit some of the most magnificent areas and sights. Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.
Additionally, Trump shared a video of a Greenland man wearing a red “Make America Great Again” cap, who is urging the president-elect to acquire the country.
“Buy us. Buy Greenland, because we don’t want to be colonized by Danish government anymore. We are the richest nation in the world and we don’t get to use it. Denmark’s using us too much. I love America.” the man can be seen saying in the video.
Trump has consistently expressed his desire to annex the autonomous territory of Greenland, which is presently under the jurisdiction of Denmark and is a member of the European Union.
“For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.” Trump stated in a remarks given last month.
Robert O’Brien, a former counsel to the Trump administration, proposed that Greenland could be incorporated into Alaska, with the United States providing security for the territory in exchange for the extraction of its minerals, oil, and resources.
