In a new online video, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta and the founder of Facebook, announced that his companies would discontinue their current fact-checking process and transition to a “community notes” model that was instituted on X by Elon Musk.
Zuckerberg unveiled a five-point strategy that began with the elimination of fact-checkers.
“First, we’re going to get rid of fact checkers and replace them with community notes similar to acts starting in the US. After Trump first got elected in 2016, the legacy media wrote nonstop about how misinformation was a threat to democracy.” Zuckerberg said.
“We tried in good faith to address those concerns without becoming the arbiters of truth. But the fact checkers have just been too politically biased and have destroyed more trust than they’ve created, especially in the US. So over the next couple of months, we’re going to phase in a more comprehensive community note system.” he continued.
He purportedly attributed the decision to the “legacy media,” which had been writing “constantly about how misinformation was a threat to democracy.”
Progressive pundits were incensed by Meta’s recent $1 million campaign donation to Trump. Joel Kaplan, a Republican official who had previously criticized Facebook for censorship, has been appointed by Zuckerberg to oversee the company’s Global Policy initiative.
This hiring occurred since the previous statement. Additionally, he has invited Dana White, the CEO of UFC and a supporter of Donald Trump, to join the Meta board.

I highly recommend you watch all of it as tonally it is one of the biggest indications of “elections have consequences” I have ever seen pic.twitter.com/aYpkxrTqWe

“But the bottom line is that after. For years of having our content moderation work focused primarily on removing content. It is time to focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our systems and getting back to our roots about giving people a voice. I’m looking forward to this next chapter. Stay good out there. And more to come soon.” Zuckerberg concluded.
