Trump Hints at Imminent Action on Tik-Tok Issue

As of Friday, President-elect Trump reportedly stated that he requires “time to review” the decision of the Supreme Court to uphold a federal law that prohibits TikTok from operating unless the firm divests itself from its Chinese parent company before January 19, which is the day before Trump is scheduled to take the oath of office.

In addition, Trump stated that “everyone must respect” the decision made by the Supreme Court.

“The Supreme Court decision was expected, and everyone must respect it. My decision on TikTok will be made in the not too distant future, but I must have time to review the situation. Stay tuned!” Trump said on his Truth Social account.

Through his post on Truth Social, President Trump appears to be taking a more submissive stance toward the Supreme Court of the United States, including its decision to preserve the bipartisan divestiture statute that was passed in April of last year with widespread support from both parties.

President Trump has made efforts to postpone the implementation of the law.

“There is no doubt that, for more than 170 million Americans, TikTok offers a distinctive and expansive outlet for expression, means of engagement, and source of community. But Congress has determined that divestiture is necessary to address its well-supported national security concerns regarding TikTok’s data collection practices and relationship with a foreign adversary.” the court ruled.

“For the foregoing reasons, we conclude that the challenged provisions do not violate petitioners’ First Amendment rights. The judgment of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit is affirmed.” it added.

Just one month ago, attorneys for the incoming president submitted a brief to the Supreme Court, requesting that the justices postpone any ruling until after Trump’s inauguration, which is scheduled to take place on Monday.
