Trump Puts New Conditions on Wildfire Aid

Before offering federal assistance to Los Angeles in its fight against wildfires, President Trump reportedly stated on Friday that he wants to see two acts taken in the state of California from the state government.

Trump is scheduled to travel to Los Angeles later on Friday in order to look at the devastation caused by the fires and meet with leaders from the city.

“I want to see two things in Los Angeles. Voter ID, so that the people have a chance to vote, and I want to see the water be released and come down into Los Angeles and throughout the state,” Trump said in a statement to reporters.

“Those are the two things. After that, I will be the greatest president that California has ever seen,” he added.

Trump’s comments prompted the office of the far-left California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, to issue a “fact check” regarding the state’s voting laws.

The office pointed out that several other states do not require voter identification.

The office of Newsom also claimed that it is currently allowed to pump as much water as it could under the policies that were implemented during Trump’s first term.

In the city of Los Angeles, where flames have claimed the lives of scores of people and damaged and destroyed thousands of homes, members of Congress are currently debating how to proceed with providing federal assistance to the city.

Republicans have raised the idea of attaching help to either a rise in the debt ceiling or changes to the regulations that California has in place to mitigate fires.

Trump has become interested in the assertion that officials in California could increase the amount of water that flows to Los Angeles from the northern section of the state by just turning on a valve.

On the other hand, some specialists have resisted, alleging that the problems with the state’s water supply are not as straightforward as they appear to be and that fire hydrants have run dry in recent weeks due to an increase in demand.

In addition, the president has been advocating for the introduction of voter identification legislation for a number of years, despite the fact that assertions of widespread election fraud have not been verified.

It was in response to the fact that one city had approved a voter identification requirement that the state of California introduced legislation that would prevent municipalities from requiring voter identification during elections. This legislation would go into effect in 2026.
