On Wednesday, President Donald Trump reportedly praised the United States Army’s recruitment stats, which indicate that the data for the month of December is the greatest in the past 15 years.
The U.S. military has failed to achieve recruitment requirements in recent years. Despite the fact that the Army was somehow able to technically meet its quota for the fiscal year 2024, it is possible that the achievement was due to the relatively low bar that was set.
“I want to share some very exciting news from our military. After years of shrinking force numbers at levels that nobody has ever seen before – 4 years of this we went through and missed recruiting targets every single month – it was just announced that in December, the U.S. Army had its single best recruitment in more than 15 years,” Trump remarked to a cheering crowd at the White House.
“Every single day, nearly 350 new soldiers enlisted to defend our nation. And they’re very, very happy to have done so. We’ve done lots of interviews and we asked why this was taking place now, and they just said there’s a spirit about our country that they haven’t seen in many, many years. And I happen to agree with that,” Trump continued.
During the first three months of the fiscal year 2025, which started in October, there has been a noticeable improvement in the recruitment process.
Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, took to social media on Monday to highlight the increasing number of people joining the military.
He attributed this trend to the election of Donald Trump and the president’s determination to place a higher priority on merit and lethality in the military.
Around the beginning of the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025, recruitment numbers started to skyrocket.
A month ago, Christine Wormuth, who had previously served as the Secretary of the Army under the administration of former President Joe Biden, stated that the Army is on schedule to bring in 81,000 new recruits, including 20,000 individuals who would participate in a delayed entry program for the fiscal year 2026.
