In his first significant speech on a global platform, Vice President Vance reportedly charged European politicians on Friday with suppressing dissenting opinions and turning away from “fundamental values.”
During his lecture at the Munich Security Conference, Vance contended that mass migration and regulations that censor free expression posed greater challenges to Europe than China or Russia.
“While the Trump administration is very concerned with European security and believes we can come to a reasonable settlement between Russia and Ukraine…the threat that I worry the most about vis a vis Europe is not Russia, it’s not China, it’s not any other external actor,” Vance remarked.
“And what I worry about is the threat from within. The retreat of Europe from some of its most fundamental values, values shared with the United States of America.” he continued.
Vance’s comments did not go into great detail about President Trump’s wish for Europe to increase defense expenditure or the situation in Ukraine, where the Trump administration is attempting to negotiate a ceasefire.
Rather, Vance charged that European authorities were stifling populist voices and voters by enacting legislation designed to reduce false and misleading information.
Vance accused “commissars” of the European Union of suppressing free speech by banning so-called “hateful content.” He criticized the UK for reversing its position on conscience rights.
After declassified security documents claimed Russian meddling in favor of an outsider candidate who was not globalist, Vance criticized Romania’s decision in December to void the results of the first round of presidential elections.
Additionally, he supported Trump buddy and tech billionaire Elon Musk’s actions. Musk has entered European politics and virtually attended a gathering for the conservative Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party.
Mass migration, according to Vance, is the continent’s most pressing problem. As an illustration of the effects of mass migration, he cited an incident that occurred in Munich the day before, in which a migrant crashed a car into a crowd.
