Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, reportedly made a public appeal on Thursday to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, also a Democrat, to step down from his position as mayor.
This demand was a continuation of earlier requests to remove Adams from leadership following his federal arrest from corruption allegations.
“Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges,” Cortez wrote on the far-left social media platform ‘Bluesky.’
Ocasio-Cortez is not the only person who is demanding that he step down from his position.
In a scenario in which Adams stepped down or was removed, the city would first appoint a temporary replacement, and then within the next eighty days, it would organize a special election.
The primaries for the position of governor in New York are scheduled to take place in the month of June. Adams has acknowledged that he is a candidate for the position, and he has not indicated that he intends to leave from his position.
