Former Congressman Adam Kinzinger has reportedly now issued a bold challenge to former President Donald Trump, daring him to bring charges against him for his involvement in the January 6 committee, which investigated Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Kinzinger made the remarks during an appearance on CNN’s “The Lead” with Jake Tapper, following Trump’s controversial statement suggesting that pardons granted by President Joe Biden, including those related to the January 6 committee, were signed with an autopen and thus invalid.
In his social media post, Trump declared these pardons “VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT,” implying that Biden was unaware of the pardons being issued.
Kinzinger responded to these claims by calling Trump’s actions a distraction meant to capture public attention.
He expressed his readiness to face any legal consequences, stating, “Bring it on. Like, honestly,” asserting that they had made the events of January 6 clear and were prepared for legal challenges.
Kinzinger emphasized that while he opposed Trump and supported Kamala Harris during the election, it was time to move forward.
He pointed out that Trump remains fixated on the events of January 6, struggling with the backlash he has faced in public opinion.
Kinzinger’s firm stance was encapsulated in his assertion that if Trump is serious about pursuing charges, he should “stop talking about it” and “bring the charges,” as Kinzinger feels confident they would win in court.
This exchange highlights the ongoing tensions between Kinzinger and Trump, as well as the broader conflicts stemming from the aftermath of the January 6 Capitol riot.
