Mia Love, the former congresswoman from Utah, reportedly passed away at the age of 49 after a nearly three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Her family announced her death, stating that she died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones.
They expressed gratitude for the impact she had on their lives and mentioned that they would provide information about funeral services and a public celebration of her life in the coming days.
Diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2022, Love served as a Republican representative for Utah’s 4th Congressional District from 2015 until 2019.
Before her congressional career, she was the mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah. After narrowly losing her reelection bid in 2018, Love became a CNN commentator and was featured on shows like “The View.”
In a poignant interview with CNN in May 2024, Love discussed her prognosis, sharing that doctors anticipated she had 10 to 15 months to live.
She attributed her strength to her faith and family, emphasizing that both had been crucial sources of support throughout her illness.
As her health deteriorated in early 2025, her daughter, Abigale, informed the public that Love’s treatment was no longer effective, shifting their focus towards cherishing remaining moments together.
Love made history as the first black Republican woman elected to the U.S. House and was recognized for her advocacy in tax reform, economic development, and public safety.
In the wake of her passing, tributes poured in highlighting her dedication to public service and the lasting impact she made on her community, inspiring future generations with her resilience and determination.
