Alina Habba, the Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, has now reportedly announced an investigation into New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Matt Platkin regarding their immigration enforcement policies.
Appearing on Fox News’s “Hannity,” Habba criticized Murphy and Platkin for allegedly instructing state police not to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, a decision she claims endangers public safety.
During the interview, Sean Hannity highlighted reports that state police had been ordered not to execute warrants found in federal databases without court orders.
Habba echoed this concern, stating that the guidelines outlined on Murphy’s website create a list of restrictions that undermine law enforcement’s ability to act on immigration warrants.
She declared, “I want it to be a warning for everybody” as she revealed her office’s plan to investigate the governor and the attorney general.
Habba emphasized the urgency of enforcing federal immigration laws, asserting that any obstruction in this matter would lead to criminal charges in New Jersey.
She referenced directives from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and expressed a commitment to removing violent criminals from the country.
Habba criticized the governor’s policy, indicating that it puts New Jersey residents at risk by preventing officers from contacting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when they encounter individuals with active deportation warrants.
In her concluding remarks, Habba warned that any individuals engaged in obstruction, concealment, or harboring of undocumented immigrants could face legal repercussions.
This announcement emphasizes the ongoing conflict between state policies and federal immigration enforcement, as well as the broader implications for local law enforcement practices in New Jersey.
