Zoe Edelman, the granddaughter of Hillary Clinton’s mentor, Marian Wright Edelman, reportedly now faces felony charges for her involvement in ransacking the Stanford University president’s office during an anti-Israel protest last year.
The Santa Clara District Attorney, Jeff Rosen, announced that Edelman has been charged with felony vandalism and trespassing, along with eleven other suspects connected to the incident.
The protest, which took place in June, involved a coordinated takeover of the president’s office.
Prosecutors allege that Edelman and her group executed a “calculated plan of destruction,” which resulted in significant damage to campus property.
According to the DA’s office, the group broke windows, damaged furniture, splashed fake blood around, and disabled security cameras while inside the building.
They barricaded themselves in and recorded videos outlining their demands.
Rosen emphasized the distinction between lawful dissent and criminal behavior, stating, “Dissent is American.
Vandalism is criminal.” He highlighted that the defendants crossed the line into criminality when they broke into the offices and initiated their destruction plan.
Edelman is a senior at Stanford and a member of the anti-Israel organization “Liberate Stanford.”
Her background is notable; her father previously held a prominent position at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and her grandmother was influential in Clinton’s early career.
The authorities recovered evidence indicating that Edelman and her co-conspirators planned the takeover in advance, including encrypted messages and a “do-it-yourself occupation guide” promoting vandalism.
Edelman’s arraignment is set for later this month, as the case continues to unfold, raising significant concerns regarding campus activism and criminality.
