Former President Joe Biden has now reportedly made his first public appearance since President Trump took office, addressing a gathering of advocates for disabled individuals in Chicago.
The speech, which focused on Social Security, started off poorly as Biden arrived 30 minutes late and struggled to engage the audience.
Biden began his remarks by reminiscing about his early experiences with civil rights, recounting an anecdote from his childhood that seemed disjointed and rambling.
He then shifted to attacking the Trump administration, accusing it and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency of attempting to dismantle Social Security.
He claimed, “In fewer than 100 days, this new administration has caused so much damage.”
Throughout the speech, Biden’s delivery fluctuated dramatically, alternating between a barely audible whisper and loud outbursts, a style reminiscent of his earlier speeches.
At one point, he made a bizarre remark about wanting to meet “300-year-old folks” receiving Social Security, which raised eyebrows.
Fox News interrupted the broadcast to fact-check some of Biden’s statements, pointing out that while the Trump administration had cut jobs at the Social Security Administration, they were focused on reducing waste and fraud, not dismantling the program itself.
Despite Biden’s claims, Trump has stated that he will not cut benefits.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt humorously commented on Biden’s nighttime appearance, suggesting that it was surprising given his usual early bedtime.
Overall, the speech was characterized by its lack of clarity and coherence, leaving many questioning Biden’s effectiveness as a communicator in this first post-Trump address.
