Former President Trump was criticized by New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu (R) for having “no energy” prior to Tuesday’s primaries in the important early primary state.
Sununu, who has endorsed Nikki Haley, told Jake Tapper of CNN that the former United Nations ambassador is the only remaining significant challenger to Trump in the New Hampshire primary, where she has the momentum to perform well.
“So you know, it’s all about the voter turnout. It’s all about the enthusiasm, where’s the energy. Not just what people say on a phone or how they you know, respond to an online text or something.” The New Hampshire governor said.
“It’s really about the energy of that campaign. Trump has no energy — the guy can barely read a teleprompter right now. All the wind is behind … Nikki’s sails. So I just think the sky’s the limit,” he continued.
Additionally, he directed criticism towards the former president, who encountered backlash after seemingly conflating Haley and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) during a campaign event the previous week.
Haley has frequently relied on Sununu as a surrogate in an effort to accomplish an upset victory in his state this week.
In recent days, he also responded to the endorsements of the former president by former Republican presidential candidates including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott.
Sununu claimed that Haley had no desire to receive the support of any of her erstwhile competitors.
“Nikki Haley doesn’t want establishment endorsements. She doesn’t want any of them. She really doesn’t. Look, Trump has … gone from the disrupter to this establishment guy. He’s never held the Senate accountable. Nikki Haley wants term limits. She says none of them should get paid unless they actually do their job.” Sununu stated.
