The former president of the United States added Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) to his growing list of prospective running mates on Thursday, saying that Abbott is “absolutely” on his shortlist.
“Absolutely, he is,” Trump told Hannity when asked about Abbott potentially being on his VP shortlist.
When asked if the list contained any names that had not yet been made public, Trump changed the subject and complimented Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), who is widely seen as the front-runner to be the former president’s running mate.
“Tim, for himself, he was fine. He did OK. I mean, he was OK as a candidate, but he didn’t want to talk about himself. He’s a very good man. For me, he’s unbelievable. He’s a surrogate.” Trump noted.
According to his campaign projections, Trump will have the required number of delegates by the middle of March, putting him on course to be the Republican nominee in November.
In response to questions about possible running mates, he has frequently made fun of the person who is being considered.
During a recent town hall, Fox host Laura Ingraham questioned Trump about who on his list included Scott, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat who left Congress to adopt a more conservative stance.
However it’s now improbable that he would choose DeSantis—the former president publicly criticized the governor of Florida during his own 2024 campaign—Trump acknowledged that they were all of them.
