Radical Socialist Party Turns on AOC

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has now reportedly lost the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) conditional endorsement after the organization stated that she does not sufficiently support Palestinian efforts to put an end to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The DSA praised Ocasio-Cortez in a memo on Wednesday for her “courageous positions on Palestine,” but it also criticized some of her recent actions, such as her panel with Jewish Council for Public Affairs leaders who the group claimed were lobbyists for the IHRA’s definition of antisemitism.

Once regarded as one of the Democratic Party’s most vocal progressives, Ocasio-Cortez is currently facing criticism from those who favor ending the Gaza War over her backing of President Biden and his financing of Israel.

The DSA National Political Committee decided in June to support Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the condition that she publicly opposes all funding to Israel, takes part in DSA committee activities, publicly opposes making anti-Zionism a crime, and publicly backs efforts to put an end to Israeli settler-colonialism.

Thousands of members, according to the group, have sent feedback regarding the possibility of the congresswoman from New York receiving a nationwide endorsement.

In the 2018 Democratic primary, Ocasio-Cortez upset 10-term incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.).

Along with Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), she was the first female member of the DSA and the youngest woman to be elected to Congress at the age of 28.
